Report on Nelliyampathi Cleaning and Trekking Drive
Navajyothi College of Teacher Education for Women, Olarikkara conducted a successful Community Living Camp from November 18 to 21, 2025. As a key activity of the camp, the college’s Nature Club, under the leadership of Principal Rev. Sr. Dr. Gigi Paul, organized an environmental cleaning and trekking drive in Nelliyampathi on the third day (20/11/25).
The team, comprising students and faculty, set off in two buses at 6:30 AM and arrived in Nelliyampathi by 9:30 AM. Following breakfast, the cleaning drive commenced at 11:00 AM in collaboration with the NGI (Narayana Group Initiative).
Narayana Swami served as the main coordinator from the NGI team.The drive began with all participants taking a pledge on environmental safety.
The students were organized into 12 groups, each consisting of 6-7 members and accompanied by two NGI team members.The groups actively collected and segregated plastic wastes from the valleys and roadsides.A total of 72 sacks of waste were successfully collected, significantly contributing to the cleanliness of the area.
The cleaning drive concluded at 12:30 PM, followed by lunch. At 2:00 PM, the team embarked on a rewarding trekking session, returning by 6:00 PM and enjoying a brief tea break. The buses started the return journey shortly after and arrived back at the college by 10:00 PM.The collaborative initiative was highly effective, instilling a strong sense of environmental responsibility and providing the students with a valuable real-world experience in community service and nature appreciation.
